  • Joe, a husband and father of four boys, is a dedicated family man who's active in his community and enjoys serving several local and national charities and nonprofit organizations, both as part of the mission at Garrett & Robinson and on his own. While at the University of Georgia in the 1980s, he held leadership positions and continues to be active in the University of Georgia Alumni Association. He's a past president of the Carroll County Sertoma Club, an organization that provides outreach to local charities and an annual Drug Awareness Day that teaches the area's fourth graders about the dangers of drugs. Joe's also an active member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, where he serves as a Lay Reader and outreach volunteer. He's also a member and past Board of Director of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, and he currently serves as a Commissioner for the Carrollton City Planning and Zoning Commission.
  • Joe's family has been serving the financial needs of citizens in the West Georgia area for more than 50 years. His father, Jimmy Garrett, recently retired from a 50-year career as one of the founders of Carroll County's largest CPA firms, Garrett, Stephens, Thomas and Fazio.

  • With 17 years in the investment industry, Clay's experience includes wealth management for successful executives, business owners and affluent individuals. Clay began his career as an investment representative with Interstate/Johnson Lane, where he remained for several years. Before forming Garrett & Robinson, he took over the investment program for Synovous Securities at CB&T Bank in Carrollton, Ga., which he built into a successful practice and managed for almost 12 years.

  • He holds Series 7, 63, and 65 registrations with LPL Financial. He also has a insurance and annuity license. Furthermore, he is licensed in insurance specializing in life and long term care.   • A lifelong resident of Carrollton, Clay attended Oak Mountain Academy, Carrollton High School, and graduated from Darlington School in Rome. Clay went on to graduate with a BA in Economics from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia.
  • Clay is married to the former Rachael Lyon and has 2 daughters, Addie (10) and Lilly (7). Clay and his family are active members of the Carrollton First United Methodist Church where he is the chairman of the Finance Committee. Additionally, Clay is an active member of the Carrollton Rotary Club.
  • When not working, you can find Clay fishing, hunting, wood-working, or coaching one of the many Garrett & Robinson sponsored recreation teams.

  • With more than 10 years experience in the Financial Services industry, Laura “Bunchie” Engel joins Garrett & Robinson in 2010 as our newest financial advisor.
  • She holds Series 7, 24, 63 and 65 registrations with LPL Financial and is also a licensed CPA.
  • Bunchie's professional goal is building client trust and loyalty by fully understanding each client's personal and financial goals. She strives to make those goals a reality through diligent wealth management practices.
  • Bunchie began her professional career with Arthur Andersen, LLP in the audit group and transitioned into an accounting position after five years. Then, she worked as a Financial Services Consultant with KPMG and subsequently as a Securities Analyst with Stonegate Securities.
  • Born in Dallas, Texas, Bunchie is a graduate of Highland Park High School. She attended the University of Virginia, where she graduated from the McIntire School of Commerce with a B.S. in Commerce, majoring in Accounting with a Spanish minor.
  • She is married to Jay Engel, and they have two daughters, Emma (7) and Hollis (6); both are students at Carrollton Elementary School. They are active members of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Carrollton, and Bunchie serves on the Children’s Commission and volunteers in the Thrift Shop.
  • She is a member of the Carrollton Arts Study Club and the Carroll-Haralson Medical Alliance. In her spare time she enjoys traveling with her family, golf, snow skiing and raising two active girls and two chocolate labs.

  • Frank Deems has joined Garrett & Robinson Investment Management as a financial consultant.
  • Deems has more than 30 years of experience in the financial and accounting fields. Prior to joining Garrett & Robinson, he spent 10 years as a financial advisor at UBS Financial Services in Atlanta where he specialized in individual retirement planning, investment management, foundations and endowments, and business retirement plans.
  • Prior to joining UBS, he was Vice President of Finance at Southwire Company in Carrollton where he was responsible for all financial planning, treasury, risk management, accounting and tax matters as well as the company's medical benefits and retirement plans.
  • Frank received a BBA in Accounting in 1974 and an MBA in 1981 from The University of West Georgia. During his tenure at Southwire Company, he occasionally served as an instructor of undergraduate corporate finance courses at the University of West Georgia.
  • Deems and his wife, Katie, reside in Carrollton. They have one son, Ryan (29), and one daughter, Lauren (24).

  • Paula has been in the financial services business since 2000. She oversees the day-to-day operation of the firm and ensures you have a positive experience any time you interact with Garrett & Robinson. She's committed to making sure you receive prompt and courteous attention, a key part of our "five-star service."
  • She, along with Tyler, is your first-line of contact here, helping you open accounts, handle paperwork, coordinate and communicate about settlements, and schedule appointments with our investment advisors. Furthermore, Paula is responsible for handling payout requests and transfers of assets between accounts. She is the lead person confirming every step is completed in the ongoing process of handling client's accounts including account aggregation, account view setup, rollovers, IRA contributions, annual required minimum distributions, cost-basis research, estate processing, re-registration and consolidation of assets held with transfer agents.
  • Born and raised in Marietta, Ga., Paula graduated from the University of West Georgia and married Jim Swinson, a career naval officer. The couple, now married 38 years, lived in places such as California, Maryland, Florida, Tennessee and even Italy, but Georgia has always been home.
  • Paula's oldest daughter Laura, son-in-law Bill and grandson Nate, live in Salisbury, N.C., and her younger daughter Heather lives and works in Atlanta.
  • She is a member of the Pilot Club of Carrollton and serves on the Board of Directors. Paula is also a member of the Carrollton First United Methodist Church.
  • Her hobbies include cooking (especially candy and baked goods) reading, traveling the world and spending time with family and her book club. Her most recent excursions include trips to China, Germany, Alaska, Peru, Costa Rica, Holland, Charleston and Barbados.

  • Lydia joined Garrett & Robinson in 2008 and oversees the firm's marketing and public relations efforts.
  • She works closely with Joe in effectively communicating with clients, potential clients, business partners and the community.
  • Born and raised in Carrollton, Lydia attended both the University of Alabama and the University of West Georgia before working for the Georgia Press Association for three years. As an assistant under executive director Robin Rhodes, Lydia was charged with coordinating the group's annual statewide newspaper contest, "The BNC."
  • Lydia and her husband, Eric, have one daughter, Olivia (8-24-07). She enjoys reading and her future plans may include returning to school to pursue a degree in nursing.

  • Tyler entered the financial industry in 2007 after beginning his professional career in media relations. At Garrett & Robinson, if we consider Joe, Clay, Frank and Bunchie the builders of Your Financial House, then Tyler is your architect.
  • He begins by learning firsthand about your current state of affairs and your personal vision for the future. He personally attends to knowing as much as he can about you and your life so he can draw the blueprints to assist Your Financial House. Furthermore, he has been trained, mentored and coached by one of the most successful financial planners in the country, Greg Powell, who was inducted into Research Magazine's Advisor Hall of Fame in 2002.
  • Tyler received his B.S. in Education from the University of Georgia. Through LPL Financial, he holds the Series 7 (general securities) and Series 63 (Georgia Blue Sky) registrations. He's also licensed in Georgia for Life, Accident and Sickness insurance.
  • While in Athens, Tyler worked as a sports communications assistant for many of the University of Georgia's nationally-ranked athletic programs. During his 10-year stint in the UGA athletic department, he orchestrated the day-to-day publicity for several of Georgia's sports programs that captured 18 NCAA national championships and 32 Southeastern Conference titles. Additionally, he wrote, edited and produced media guides and game programs for the UGA football, gymnastics, softball, and volleyball teams.
  • Tyler is married to the former Kristen Peek, who is beginning her ninth year of teaching and her fourth at Carrollton Junior High School. The couple has two children, Jacelyn Elizabeth (6/4/07) and Tyler Fuller (12/28/08). He is a member of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Education and Work Development Committee as well as the First United Methodist Church Advisory Council.
